About This Item

London: Jonathan Cape, 1928. Hardcover. Very Good in Fair dust jacket/Good -. Pages crisp and clean except for a prior owner's note at the front free endpaper and a little gentle toning in the margins throughout; binding square and secure, red cloth hardcover modestly softened and rubbed at spine ends, with a very small chip in the cloth at the heel, and showing small inward turns at the top free corners and a little rubbing at all free corners, otherwise excellent. Jacket is priceclipped and shows toning in the light-colored portions, some open tearing with small areas of material loss at the top rear, spine head, top front, and bottom front, as well as chipping at corners and spine heel, surface wear along spine shoulders and foreedges and some additional, closed edge tears, some sunning at the spine and some light surface wear front and back, yet the image (by J.L. Carstairs) remains bright and striking, and quite as sinister as the author's dedication. 286pp.
