Description:
Signed. First Edition. The late Comer Cottrell was an extremely successful Dallas businessman. He was also influential in politics, education, sports and cultural affairs. He was a minority owner of the Texas Rangers, he brought Paul Quinn College to Dallas and he helped elect Mayor Ron Kirk, Dallas' first black mayor. The book is inscribed to the late Joe Atkins, another trailblazing Dallasite, who, in 1955, sued North Texas College for admission on the basis of racial discrimination. In addition, there is a bookmark for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Ellis and Betty Davis. Ellis Davis was basketball coach of Roosevelt H S in Dallas. They named a stadium after him. The book is in fine, unread condition. The dust jacket has a quarter inch tear at the fold on the back flap and there is minor shelf wear. The book is inscribed, dated and signed on the front free end page. An important book with significant associations.
