The 19th Michigan was organized in 1862 because of concern for the Confederate invasion of Kentucky, and became engaged at the battle of Thompsons Station, Tennessee, where they surrendered after suffering the highest percentage of casualties of any regiment. Their incarceration at Libby Prison in Richmond was brief; they were paroled, re-armed, and fought against guerilla fighters in McMinnville, TN. This account is based on military records and 1641 letters and 14 diaries written by members. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 397 pages .
