CHARLES P. QUESENBERRY, PhD, is a private consultant and a Professor Emeritus of Statistics at North Carolina State University where, from 1966 to 1996, he taught courses in engineering and industrial statistics. He has consulted with many top manufacturing firms and government institutions including General Motors, Becton-Dickenson Research Laboratories, Procter and Gamble, and the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. An associate of W. Edwards Deming, he assisted in conducting Dr. Deming's world-famous quality management seminars, and is the author of the Q-charting system, a technique for applying the Deming principle of continuous improvement to existing SPC methods. Dr. Quesenberry is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, an elected member of the International Statistical Institute, a fellow of the American Society for Quality Control, and a member of several other professional and honor societies. For his research into SPC he received the C. C. Craig Award from the Automotive Division of ASQC in 1988 and 1990, and the ASQC Brumbaugh Award in 1988. He earned a BS in mathematics and an MS and PhD in statistics from Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
