Literary biography of geographer Hasan al-Wazzan who became known as Leo Africanus or Leo the African. This is written as an imaginary autobiography of al-Wazzan, born at the end of the 15th century in Grenada from where he and his family fled with other Muslim and Jewish families. The Christian conquest was advancing, and soon the Inquisition would mark the times. Settling in Fez, as a youth he worked in the public baths, in an insane asylum, and on a long journey with his uncle across the Atlas. And this is only the beginning. Author Amin Maalouf had been a journalist in Lebanon.
