Seldes' father, editor of *The Dial* Gilbert Seldes was a friend of the Murphys and is mentioned in the text as having introduced John Dos Passos.and Donald Ogden Stewart to the Murphy's' parties in Paris, who in turn introduced them to Archibald MacLeish, Philip Barry, and James Joyce.
