Samuel Hoffenstein (1890-1947) was an American poet, screenwriter, and playright, celebrated for his sharp wit and sardonic humor. He was a leading figure in both the literary and film industries; his screenplays include Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Phantom of the Opera.
