Inscribed by the author to the Oliver Wendell Holmes Hospital.. Octavo, [nine volumes]. Three-quarter calf, marbled paper covered boards. Title in gilt on spines with gilt embellishments. All edges marbled with matching marbled endpapers. No additional printings listed on copyright pages. Solid text block, some rubbing to corners and thin scratches to spines. Internally bright and clear. Inscribed by Holmes on the front flyleaf of Page from an Old Volume of Life: "To the Oliver Wendell Holmes Hospital from the Author / Oct. 28th 1889." The Oliver Wendell Holmes Hospital, which this collection was presented to, was announced in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1887. This collection includes the following works: Pages from an Old Volume of Life, The Autocrat of the Breakfast-Table, The Professor at the Breakfast-Table, The Poet at the Breakfast-Table, The Guardian Angel, Our Hundred Days in Europe, A Mortal Antipathy, Elsie Venner, and Poetical Works.
