John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1910. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. With 2 Photogravure Portraits & Numerous Other Illustrations. Two volumes. London First edition. Written a decade after his first biography of William Makepeace Thackeray (1811-63), this entirely new work takes full advantage of the numerous first-hand accounts and Thackeray letters, including many previously unpublished, which Melville managed to collect in the intervening years. Green cloth bindings, with gilt and light green stamping. A very good set.
