The first edition in book form. The works first featured serially in the 'Century Magazine' and the 'Harper and Brothers Magazine'. Illustrated by American illustrator Edward Windsor Kemble with a monochrome frontispiece and sixteen monochrome plates. This work features a collection of stories based in Southern America, written by American journalist, novelist and poet Harry Stillwell Edwards. Edwards is best known for his works in dialect and wrote pro-slavery works that were popular in the south. In the publisher's original cloth. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally very smart with bumping and slight rubbing to the extremities and minimal fading to the spine. Internally firmly bound with only the frontispiece starting, pages clean and age toned with only the odd spot to the blanks and a small closed tear to the frontispiece. Very Good
