About This Item
Charles J Scofield (1853-1953) was a lifelong resident of Illinois, who became first a circuit court judge (1886-93) and then an appelate court judge (1893-97) He also served as a lay pastor for his church for many years He wrote this religious novel in the midst of his court service, but it is not clear how successful it may have been However, the fact that at least 5,000 copies were produced suggests at least a modest popularity
This copy is near fine in dark blue cloth with gilt title and border on the spine and the author's facsimile signature in gilt on the front cover It was quite attractively bound with floral endpapers and marbling on the page edges all around Slight edge wear, primarily at spine ends, but no marks or damage at all
