Wear at spine ends; rubbing at leading corner tips just through to boards; leading edge of front cover bumped in two place, with a spot of rubbing to rear leading edge; pastedowns and endpapers show light foxing, with an ownership signature in pen front endpaper. Page v with a bit of thumbing lower leading corner. Binding is tight and prelims and text pages overall clean. ; (i), title - viii; 214 pp.; 215-222, postscript; (1)-4, pub. ads; (1)-4, ad for Third Edition with numerous 'opinions' from various newspapers and individual. Origianl blind-stamped brown cloth, spine lettered in gilt. The Postscript is an interesting addition to the first edition of 1854, in that the author seeks to "correct some important mistakes of the reviewers."; Small 8vo 7½" - 8" tall .
