About This Item

None: Privately Printed, 1919. Leather. Near Fine. 9.5" by 6". None. A scarce privately printed edition of The Songs of Bilitis. Scarce edition. Privately printed. A collection of erotic lesbian poetry by Pierre Louÿs originally published in Paris in 1894. Louÿs claimed that he had translated the original poetry from Ancient Greek, meaning this work is considered a pseudotranslation. However, the poems were actually clever fabulations, authored by Louÿs himself. This little book of love is respectfully dedicated to the young girls of the society of the future. Written by Pierre Louÿs, a French poet and writer, best known for lesbian and classical themes. He is remembered for his contributions to French literature as a writer who sought to "express pagan sensuality with stylistic perfection." In the original half calf binding with cloth boards. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear and rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Near Fine
