London: T. Cadell and W. Davies, 1813. Leather. Good. 9" by 5.5". None. A two volume set of the sermons of Beilby Porteus. Complete in two volumes. Fourteenth edition. A collection of sermons on subjects such as: the love of God, causes of unbelief, resisting temptation, the necessity national reformation, the laws of Christ, Christian friendship, redemption, purity of manners, opportunities of doing good, and more. Written by Beilby Porteus, a Church of England reformer and leading abolitionist in England. He was the first Anglican in a position of authority to seriously challenge the Church's position on slavery. Bound in full calf. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd mark to the boards. Cracks to the joints with the head of the spine lifting slightly to volume one. Hinges just starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot and age toning to the endpapers. Good
