Softcover 12mo, (327)-456pp. A fair to good copy with chippinng to wraps, which have been reinforced at the spine and edges with archival doccument tape to make the book suitable for handling. A tract supplementing Samson's full length book 'The Divine Law as to Wines; Established by the Testiomony of Sages, Physicians, and Legislators Against the Use of Fermented and Intoxicating Wines Confirmed by Their Provision of Unfermented Wines to be Used for Medicinal and Sacramental Purpose,' published the prior year (1880). Samson elaborates on the ongoing debate about the Biblical precedent, science of fermentation, and historical evidence of alcohol in ancient Palestine with affect to the modern temperance movement. Samson (1819-1896) was pastor of the E Street Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and president of Columbian College (now George Washington University) from 1859 to 1871. In later life, Samson's interests extended to Spiritualism. Rare.
