About This Item

Stillgate Publishers, 1981. hardcover. Very Good. 12x9x1. 1981 limited edition (no. 23 of 200 copies), signed by author/artist, Stillgate Publishers (South Acworth, New Hampshire), 9 1/4 x 12 1/4 inches tall brown cloth hardcover in publisher's matching cloth slipcase, publisher's red paper calligraphic belly band, red endpapers, copiously illustrated with Reps' drawings and calligraphy in black and red, trifold folding prints on Japanese paper and tipped in litho / calligraphic poems on front pastedown and heading each section, 184 pp. Very slight soiling and rubbing to covers, with just a tiny bit of bumping to the lower tip of the front cover. A bit of creasing to the red 'belly band' on the covers. Otherwise, a near fine copy - clean, bright and unmarked - in a slightly soiled and moderately edgeworn slipcase. Note that this is a heavy and oversized book, so additional postage will be required for international or priority orders. ~SP19~ [5.0P] One of the most important collections of the works of American artist, poet, and author Paul Reps (1895-1990), best known for his unorthodox haiku-inspired poetry that was published from 1939 onwards. He is considered one of America's first haiku poets. In association with his writing, Reps was also a well-received artist. Like this collection, many of his dozen or more books have artwork influenced by Zen Buddhism displayed in association with his writings.
