Signed by the author on the title page. A children's picture book, written in call and response style, about a little African American girl named Brenda and her crown of gloriously curly, "nappy" hair. Everyone at her family's picnic has a comment about Brenda's hair, but ultimately it is agreed that they are "admiring it by uncovering its meaning, its strength, its African-ness." (front jacket flap). Public and critical reception of this book has been mixed, with some dismayed at the perjorative use of the term "nappy". ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
