Spines, faded, gilt titles, edges bumped & worn, library nos at base. Internally, Vol 1, [5], (vi) only, [1], 2-354 pp. Vol 2, [2], [1], 2- 366 pp, [4] adverts. 2 vols in yellow endpapers, Library book label to fpd, sm oval stamp & ink no to tps. First published in New York in 1857, followed by Boston in 1864 then this again in NY in 1865. (208*136 mm). An amusing pair of volumes describing the lives and exploits of European Monarchs who were removed, for various reasons, from their thrones. These books are from the antique collection of one of the oldest libraries in the USA and bear that library's hand numbered and hand dated 19th Century bookplate.
