Some modest foxing, bindings lightly rubbed at edges, with small scuff to one joint; a good set, in an interesting binding. First edition. Bazin (1797 - 1850), left the practice of law for historical pursuits, and this work is highly regarded for the portrait it provides of the "Monarchie de Juillet." Of special note is the essay describing the cholera outbreak in Paris.

Labaume discusses the Campaign of Paris in 1814, the battle of Paris, which was fought during the Napoleonic Wars, and the French defeat, which led directly to the abdication of Napoleon I.

Famed full-color frontispiece is intact, as is tipped-in protective tissue. All eight B&W engravings are intact, including frontispiece. (Plate on page 97 has a deckled bottom edge.)Spine is discolored and darker than rest of jacket, with slight wear on heel and top. Pages are age tanned and have small stains. Two of the pages are uncut.All four endpapers are significantly discolored with a black waxy substance (see photos), something like crayon.

Their timeslip experience has become known as the Ghosts of the Petit Trianon. Previously out of print, this is a new edition with additional timeslip type experiences at Versailles.
