This is copy number 38 of a Limited Edition of fifteen hundred copies of A Lost Lady, by Willa Cather, Illustrated by William Bailey, and Introduction by John Hollander that was published in 1983 by The Limited Editions Club of New York. The book, which measures approximately 7 ½ inches wide by 10 ½ inches tall by ¾ inch thick, contains 105 pages of text and illustrations. The book is signed on the colophon page by William Bailey, the book's illustrator. The book is hard bound in burgundy aniline leather with cloth board and gilt printing on the spine. The book is further enclosed in a slipcase with similar colored surfaces as the book's cover. The book is in as new condition; the slipcase, which has some minor signs of wear – particularly dirt stains on the surfaces, is in near fine condition.
The illustrations accompanying this description show the book in its slipcase, the Title page and its associated Frontispiece, the first page of the Introduction by John Hollander, a typical 2-page spread of text and illustration, and the colophon page.
Willa Sibert Cather (December 7, 1873 – April 24, 1947) was an American writer known for her novels of life on the Great Plains, including O Pioneers!, The Song of the Lark, and My Antonia. In 1923, she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for One of Ours, a novel set during World War I. In 2023, a statue of Willa Cather was placed in Statuary Hall in the US Capitol, one of the statues from the State of Nebraska. [Wikipedia]
Synopsis
Willa Cather's A Lost Lady was first published in 1923. It tells the story of Marian Forrester and her husband, Captain Daniel Forrester who live in the Western town of Sweet Water, along the Transcontinental Railroad.
