The images were printed by the Boston Heliotype Printing Company to exacting standards and the text was printed at the Merrymount Press.
x, 120 pp. 1 vols. Folio (14.3 inches x 11.8 inches). Original green buckram binding with original glassine wrap.
NEW. This book was purchased directly form Harvard's Farlow Herbarium c1981, and had remained in its original wrapper until it was opened for current listing purposes. The original paper wrap, prior to its first opening, is illustrated. The original glassine wrap is present. The paper is brilliantly white and the images exeptionally bright and clean. There is, as usual, some very light offsetting, but this is about as good as it gets!
Truly, a stunning mushroom book.

London: James Nelson & Co, 1860 A very good copy of the 3rd edition with 42 hand coloured plates. This copy has been rebound in plain buckram cloth with gilt titles to spine, and the endpapers have been replaced. The binding is sound and clean with some darkening to the spine and light corner wear. Contents: half title; title; contents and plate listings xii; introduction 2pp; text pp 3-211 with 42 plates; index pp 212-215. All the plates have tissue guards. Contents are in very good clean condition. The guard to plate 1 is torn and the bottom part is missing. Plate 13 has a wide gutter so the side edge is trimmed although the plant image is complete. There is some marking to the verso of p 215 (blank) and the occasional light mark or offsetting from the plates. The plates are clean and bright with the occasional stray paint spot or light mark.

Vienna: Schrämblischen, 1818. Image is 6 1/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches on a sheet that is 9 inches by 7 inches. Drawn and engraved by pharmacist turned naturalist Ferdinand Vietz ((1772-1815) and published in volume 7 of Icones Plantarum Medico-Oeconomico-Technologicarum, edited by J. L. Kerndl and published by Schrämblischen in Vienna in 1818. Original hand-coloring. Like all the plates from Vietz's classic work on medicinal uses of plants, this is a lovely original print on high-quality watermarked laid paper. Condition is very good: clean and bright. Binding edge is untrimmed. This original engraving is guaranteed to be more than 200 years old.. First Edition. Single Sheet. Very Good+. Illus. by Ferdinand Vietz. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
