[no discernible wear to book, but with the previous owner's initials plus date & place of purchase written in ink along edge of rear pastedown (concealed beneath rear jacket flap); the jacket has a tiny white blemish at the top edge of the front panel and some light surface wear]. "This fictional biography celebrates the most famous friendship ever recorded. In the course of tracing its development, [the author] herself a highly respected writer of seventeen crime novels and three collections of Holmesian stories, gives fascinating insights into the personalities of these two very different individuals whose relationship was to last for over forty-six years." She also deals with many of the theories and disputed points about the Holmes-Watson partnership, including among others: the dating of 'The Hound of the Baskervilles'; the location of 221B Baker Street; the motive behind Holmes's three-year disapperance; and whether or not the Holmes-Watson relationship was homosexual. .

Synopsis

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character of the late 19th and early 20th centuries who first appeared in publication in 1887. He was the creation of Scottish author and physician Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A brilliant London-based "consulting detective", Holmes is famous for his intellectual prowess and is renowned for his skillful use of astute observation, deductive reasoning and forensic skills to solve difficult cases. Conan Doyle wrote four novels and 56 short stories that feature Holmes.
