About This Item

Heritage Books, 1990. paperback. Very Good. 5x1x8. 1990 Heritage Books, Inc. (Bowie, Maryland), two 5 3/8 x 8 1/4 inches tall paperbound volumes in pale green glossy printed covers, index, 677 pp. Slight rubbing and edgewear to covers. Otherwise, a very good to near fine set - clean, bright and unmarked. ~LL~ [3.0P] Reprint of the 1868 edition first published by Wiggin and Lunt of Boston, this typical town history covers all the usual subjects from the initial grant of the territory to Charlestown, through the initial settlements, the Indian Wars, the subsequent growth of the town, the Revolutionary War, etc. Thhere are numerous references to residents, including some short biographical sketches in the main text. That is followed by several appendices which include the 1758 diary of Lt. Samuel Thompson of Woburn during the French War, a list of Woburn men who served in the Revolution, a list of early town and church officers (including grammar school teachers prior to 1771) and a section of genealogical notices of the earliest Woburn families. The families included in the genealogical appendix are those identified from the 1640 town orders, tax lists of 1645, 1646, 1666 and 1672, and from a list of men with rights in the common lands as of 1668. The author was a graduate of Harvard, and served as a pastor of the church in nearby Burlington for 28 years.
