Two volume complete set.Bound in a full tree calf prize binding from the 'King's School Bruton' with a gilt crest and border to the boards, gilt decorations and text to the spines and a marbles fore edge and end papers. The new edition in two volumes.This work is written by British historian Lord Macaulay. Lord Macaulay, otherwise known as Thomas Babington Macaulay, was a Whig politician and Secretary of war. Macaulay's political history had an effect on this work, with it being used today as an example of Whig history. The work looks into the history of England from the Roman rule of Britain to the death of James the second. In a full tree calf prize binding. Externally very smart with very minor marks to the boards and light rubbing to the joints, extremities and spine resulting in very minimal loss to the leather to the head of the spine for 'Vol 1' and to the extremities of 'vol 2'. Very light offsetting to the extremities of the end papers and hinges starting slightly but very firm. Internally firmly bound with bright an generally clean pages with the odd spot to the fronts and rears. Prize ink inscription dated 1912 to the front blank of 'Vol 1'. Very Good Indeed
