Vera Salomons offers insights into the life and work 18th century French engraver Hubert-François Bourguignonin, in this first edition In this first edition, Vera Salomons outlines the life and work of 18th century engraver Hubert-François Bourguignon, commonly known as Gravelot. The famous book illustrator emigrated to London in 1732, and soon became an important figure in introducing the Rococo style to British design. With a catalogue of works illustrated by Gravelot, the work was originally intended to assist collectors of French engravers. The volume also includes a short biographical introduction to the artist, a discussion of his art, and 21 plates of Gravelot's engravings, collated and complete. Vera Salomons was an elusive cosmopolitan intellectual, best remembered for founding and funding the L.A. Mayer Museum of Islamic Art in Jerusalem. In the publisher's original quarter vellum binding over light blue cloth. Externally, generally smart. A little rubbed to the boards and the spine. Bumped to the tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound with bright and clean pages. Very Good
