A reprint of this important 1890 work on the rise and development of the medieval Gild system, both in Britain and on the Continent. With key information on the organisation, duties and privileges of the Gild men and their relationship with the municipal government of the time.Written by Charles Gross. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original dust wrapper's, which have been price-clipped. Externally, lovely, with minor shelf wear only. Dust wrapper to volume I is very smart, with light edge wear and a few small chips to the head of the spine. Dust wrapper to volume II is sound, with heavier edge wear and chipping, and a tear to the front joint, extending across the spine. Sunning to both wraps, mainly to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine
