A Modern Library edition presenting an assortment of plays from the Elizabethan period: "Doctor Faustus" by Marlowe, "The Shoemaker's Holiday" by Dekker, "A Woman Killed with Kindness" by Heywood, "Volpone or the Fox" by Jonson, "The Maid's Tragedy" by Beaumont and Fletcher, "The Duchess of Malfi" by Webster, "A New Way to Pay Old Debts" by Massinger and "'Tis Pity She's a Whore" by Ford. With an introduction by Esther Cloudman Dunn. --- In Toledano spine 8 / rust cloth / gilt titling on black spine & cover blocks / black topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style h / verso advertises 329 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1947 (though 1932 date appears in book). ML #94.2. --- With prior owner's signature to front free endpaper, and boldly-marked back endpaper price, otherwise a tightly-bound, bright and unmarked copy. Fair-only, brittle jacket with no shortage of tears and chips but mostly intact and protected in removable mylar wrapper.; 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); xvi, 721, [6, ads] pages .
