This is one of the best examples of this first edition volume to be found today. It is a fine book with a small tear in the cover on the spine. It does have a mylar cover and the original cover is otherwise exquisite. It is complete. I purchased this book in 2000 from a collector.

London; (1967): Calder & Boyars. First Edition. Octavo. 168 pages. limited to 100 signed copies, the present copy is B-30 signed by the author. These pieces were ignored by critics of the era but now are considered distillations of his major thinking. For example, Ping existence of two very different kinds of literary politics. "Ping" is one of Beckett's "residua" texts from No's Knife, in this collection we have much on the battle between postmodern exhaustion and modernist epiphany. NY: Knopf, 1965. First edition, first prnt. Signed by Tyler on the title page. Laid in is a typed note with ink signature on 6x7 inch 20lb stock. "Louise: here is a peculiar little book which I was suppose (sic) to review but couldn't think of anything to say about -- which is not to say I didn't like it. But it left me baffled. See what you think. It's coming out this month. Behave yourself. Either get rid of the whiskey or the scatter rugs. I know what I'd do. Love, (indecipherable first name signature - could be "Helen")." The front board has a faint rust mark left by a paperclip; otherwise it is an exceptionally clean, tight copy; the dustjacket has the upper corners just touched, mildly sunned spine and a shallow paperclip impression on the front panel upper edge - see scan. The note (which obviously does not refer to the novel)is folded in half with few shallow wrinkles. Near Fine condition in a Very Good dustjacket with an archival cover. Tyler's second… Read More

Steinbeck, John. The Long Valley. New York: Viking Press, 1938. First Printing of the First US Edition. First Printing. A Near Fine copy with the usual age darkening to the front pastedown in a Very Good plus unclipped dust jacket with gentle wear to the extremities, and a short closed edge tear at the head of the spine. A collectible copy of this collection of classic Steinbeck fiction. This volume of stories collected with the encouragement of his longtime editor Pascal Covici serves as a wonderful introduction to the work of Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck. Set in the beautiful Salinas Valley of California, where simple people farm the land and struggle to find a place for themselves in the world, these stories reflect Steinbeck's characteristic interests: the tensions between town and country, laborers and owners, past and present. Included here are the O. Henry Prize-winning story "The Murder"; "The Chrysanthemums," perhaps Steinbeck's most challenging story, both personally and artistically;… Read More

The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process.
