About This Item
Stated 10th edition, but not the 10th American. Austin records a 1771 Philadelphia edition, evidently the first American, as well as the present edition and four others printed in 1772. Cadogan argues that chronic illnesses such as Gout are caused by "Indolence, Intemperance and Vexation," rather than being seasonal or hereditary, as was generally thought at the time.
William Baylies (1776-1865) of Dighton, Mass. was an attorney and U.S. Representative. He served as a Federalist in the 13th and 14th Congresses (1813-1817) and an anti-Jacksonian in the 23rd Congress (1833-1835).
