About This Item

1868 Confessions of an English Opium Eater de Quincey Alcohol & Drug Addiction

"Surely everyone is aware of the divine pleasures which attend a wintry fireside; candles at four o'clock, warm hearthrugs, tea, a fair tea-maker, shutters closed, curtains flowing in ample draperies to the floor, whilst the wind and rain are raging audibly without."

Thomas de Quincey, Confessions of an English Opium Eater

"Confessions of an Opium Eater" was a popular 19th-century book on drug and alcohol abuse and addiction. The book includes sections dealing with the consequences and pains that come with abusing drugs, such as opium. It was Thomas de Quincey's most famous book and helped him rise to prominence as an author.
