Captain Jack (1847-1917) fought in the Civil War at age 16, was severely wounded at 17 in the Battle of the Wilderness, became a US Cavalry scout, superior horseman, entertainer, poet, and entrepreneur. He wrote for magazines, became known nationally as The Poet Scout, and between 1886 and 1913, wrote 7 books. Joining the Klondike Gold Rush, in Dawson City, Yukon Territory, he was a civic leader and master of ceremonies for events. He led the 4th of July and Dominion parades.
