About This Item

New York: Macmillan Company, 1941. Small octavo (18.5 x 12.5 cm.), xvi, 154, [18] pages. Illustrations in the text. Index. Later edition, based on the revised edition of 1926. The work is still regarded as an authoritative text on outdoor cooking. Kephart (1862-1931) abandoned his career as a librarian in 1904 and eventually settled in the Hazel Creek section of what would become Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. He became an authority on life in Appalachians and on camping and outdoor living, and his many works remain in print to this day. Camp Cookery was first published in 1910, and was reissued by Macmillan as part of its "Outing Handbooks" series. Endpapers stained at edges; textblock a bit age-toned. In publisher's pictorial blue cloth, decorated and titled in black. Cloth somewhat soiled. Near very good. With the bookseller's ticket of Boston's Old Corner Book Store. [Axford, page 51; Bitting, page 258; Brown 2649; Cagle 409].
