Inscribed to Terry Tempest Williams on red front free endpaper: To Terry Reprint of my first novel, full of natural history and mother-loss,* Fondly Shelby, 1988, North White Plains, *my own still here, at 83. Hearon has additionally made two annotations to the copyright and dedication pages, adding my children underneath the dedicatees, and she has signed her name in full at the end of the one-page introduction. A near fine jacket in a near fine book. A beautiful illustrated cover. The signed by author sticker in the photos is on the mylar protective cover. // The second: Five Hundred Scorpions. New York, Atheneum, 1987. First edition hardcover, a fine book in near fine jacket with only very minor edge wear. Inscribed with dry flare to William Kittredge of Montana on the front free endpaper: To Bill a real nice guy, my vintage, my scars it was pleasure to be with you, Best, Shelby, Quartz Mountain, 1988 // Hearon was a Guggenheim winner and author of seventeen books. Born in Kentucky, she was a longtime resident of Texas and her papers are held at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center at the University of Texas, Austin.
