New York: Thomas Y Crowell and Co, 1886. Early issue of first English translation, 1886, by Nathan Dole. Contains list of 14 Tolstoi books and 3 booklets; small 3 pp glossary at rear. Inscribed by Charles Firman Smith Dec. 15, 1887. Smith was valedictorian of Literary Class of 1887 at UM, where he knew Kate Skipworth (1867-1961), who was half sister to Mary Skipworth Buie, the two of whom are responsible for the museum in their name at Oxford/University, MS.
