Amy and Isaac Post were early converts to the 19th century Spiritualism, a religious movement that believes that the dead have the ability to communicate with the living. It had about 8 million followers by the end of the 19th Century. In 1848 the couple joined with Kate and Margaret Fox who had acquired the ability to communicate with spirits. Isaac Post too was acknowledged as a medium. The spirits contacted with the communication recorded in writing by Post included George Washington, Emanuel Swedenborg, John C. Calhoun, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and William Penn.
