Binding is in poor condition. Most of the cloth spine is gone. Front cover very loose and attached by a couple of binding cords. Light damp stains on the covers. Some edge wear to the boards. Contents slightly shaken with binding cords visible between pages 22 and 23. Interior contents are lightly toned and clean. Previous owner's illustrated bookplate on the front paste down (Siegel). Much information on the Lewis and Clark expedition inside. Howes S 739 - "First American juvenile book on the trans Mississippi region, giving account of its early explorers, wild tribes, etc."; Sabin 85429; Graff 3875 - - "This was Snelling's first book, the earliest juvenile on the Far West. The author's father was Josiah Snelling after whom Fort Snelling was named. He was, at one time, a fur trader in the far west.
