Constantine I (1868 – 1923) was King of Greece from 18 March 1913 to 11 June 1917 and from 19 December 1920 to 27 September 1922. He was commander- in-chief of the Hellenic Army during the unsuccessful Greco-Turkish War of 1897 and led the Greek forces during the successful Balkan Wars of 1912–1913, in which Greece expanded to include Thessaloniki, doubling in area and population. The eldest son of George I of Greece, he succeeded to the throne following his father's assassination in 1913.

The Third Siege of Missolonghi was fought in the Greek War of Independence, between the Ottoman Empire and the Greek rebels, from 15 April 1825 to 10 April 1826. The Ottomans had already tried and failed to capture the city in 1822 and 1823, but returned in 1825 with a stronger force of infantry and a stronger navy supporting the infantry. The Greeks held out for almost a year before they ran out of food and attempted a mass breakout, which however resulted in a disaster, with the larger part of the Greeks slain.

Neophytos Vamvas ( Greek: Νεόφυτος Βάμβας; 1770 – 1856) was a cleric, philosopher, philologist, author, professor, and dean. He had the conviction that the Bible should be translated into modern Greek in order to become property of the people. After having translated it, Vamvas faced fierce conflicts and disagreement, the so called Neophytos Incident, that ultimately did not allow his effort to be established.
