Psalm 104, Verse 25. English manuscript on paper. No place 1828. Illustrated watercolour title with manuscript text, 90 watercolour plates with hundreds of images of shells, plates and including title numbered in a cont. hand 1 through 91 in upper right corner. Cont. English dark purple half morocco, flat spine richly gilt. Endpapers lined with yellow Spanish marbled paper based on polychrome stone marbled decoration. All edges gilt. 4to (285 x 224 mm). Extremeties slightly worn.

Two hand coloured lithographed broadsides by Lemercier after Victor Adam (1801-1866) and Louis Stanislas Marin-Lavigne (1797-1860) heightened with gum Arabic, each with a large central image showing Napoléon on horseback one dated 1800 the other 1815, each framed by 20 further images which relate important steps in his military and political career giving a full account of his reign closing with a view of his tomb on the island of St. Helena. Large folio (660 x 500 mm). Mounted and framed within modern white cardboard passepartouts. Light foxing, in margins else fine. Two spectacular large size lithographs in beautiful contemporary hand colouring, celebrating Napoleon's life and accomplishments. Many of the small images depict battle scenes others with important political events. Lower margins of each sheet with variant hand coloured allegorical vignette, one showing a heraldic eagle the other the Code Napoléon. Well margined copies.

Description:
The automata were created between 1768 and 1774 by Pierre Jaquet-Droz (1721-1790), his son Henri-Louis and Jean-Frédéric Leschot, and at the time of the publication owned and exhibited by the French showman Auguste Bullot. The book contains a detailed description of the three life-like automaton dolls and the automaton grotto. 1. The musician, a female organ player. The music is not recorded or played by a musical box. The doll plays a genuine, custom-built instrument by pressing the keys with her fingers. Movements of her chest show her "breathing", and she follows her fingers with her head and eyes. The automaton also makes some of the movements that a real player would do, such as balancing the torso. 2. The draughtsman, a young boy.
