Slight sunning to the spine, and a few minor spots, but an uncommonly fine copy of the uncommon first edition. With two engraved plates. Letters written by a blind woman who went from being a bride to, a widow and blinded all within one month. Gives some insights into being blind in mid-century America.

Name on fly, otherwise a fine copy. With the half-title and page of ads. Illustrated by 6 engravings. Originally published in 1798. Contains an Ode "The Dying Indian" based on an extract from Carver's Travels in North America. "The then unenclosed Needwood Forest (in Staffordshire) was to Gisborne what Selborne was to Gilbert White, and enjoyment of natural scenery is impressed in Poems modelled chiefly upon Cowper". Leslie Stephen in the DNB.

Included is a copy of the published edition, fine in slipcase box issued in 1982.
