Description:
A collection of short stores by Leslie Gordon Barnard. Born in Montreal, Barnard began writing in 1920, primarily producing works of short popular fiction. He would go on to be known as the most productive Canadian author of short stories. Many of his stories were published in magazines, as well as being published in collections such as this one. This particular volume is number 466 of 550 copies, of which 490 were available for sale. It also has an inscription from the author addressed to W.H. Landry on the front fly leaf, thanking him for his help in producing the book. The book is missing its dust jacket, but is in Good condition, with the paper covering on the corners of the boards worn away as well as some significant bumping, and damage to the top of the spine. Otherwise, the binding is tight and the text is clear. An interesting copy of the work of a lesser known but significant Canadian author.

He was also regional Director of the National Housing Corporation and later Regional Architect to Central Mortgage Housing Corp. in Toronto. This volume has an interesting provenance, as well, having belonged to D.G.W. McRae, as indicated by his name and address written on the front flyleaf. Author of The Arts and Crafts of Canada, he was one of the early instructors at what would go on to be the Ryerson Institute of Technology, intended to provide vocational training for soldiers returning from the Second World War. This institution would go on to become Ryerson University, now Toronto Metropolitan University.… Read More
