Colonized in the eighteenth century by the Spanish, the Republic of Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836, but was not recognized by the United States until a year later in 1837. Another border dispute is noted in Canada with the careful coloring showing the '54 40 of fight' dispute with the British. Some wrinkling to the edges and toning but otherwise in good condition.
