Description:
A Coloured lithograph, pen Signed by the artist as "Maurice Sendak" at lower right, from Sendak's book 'In the Night Kitchen', copyright information printed verso.
The item was originally owned by an agent and friend of Maurice Sendak.
19.25 x 14.5 inches. Unframed. In near fine condition.
The image first appeared in Sendak's award winning book "In the Night Kitchen" (New York: Harper & Row, 1970). It shows three rotund chefs, apparent caricatures of comedian Oliver Hardy, preparing batter for a "morning cake." The protagonist of the story, a boy named Mickey, can be seen sitting on a milk bottle at the upper left. This image was first produced in 1971 as a fine art print included among twenty images chosen by Sendak for his portfolio "Pictures by Maurice Sendak" (New York: Harper & Row, 1971). Sendak curated this collection to include his favorite images from eight different titles to be enjoyed as art prints without necessarily being tied to the related text.

First Edition. 4to (25*19cm), pp. 51, [3, Publisher's Advertisements], Publisher's cloth-backed boards, paper label to spine, preserved in burgundy morocco drop-back box. Published by Leonard and Virginia Woolf at The Hogarth Press (Richmond), 1923.
A signed presentation copy from the Author to Jacob Kramer. Inscribed by the Author to the front free endpaper. Additionally inscribed by the Author with manuscript verses below, those too initialled, being the first appearance of this poem which was published by Faber & Faber in 1935 and entitled 'Night Negation', one of a selection from "Poems 1914 - 1934" by Read. The inscription reads:

Bound in royal navy, half morocco gilt, spine with raised bands, gilt ruled in six compartments, gilt lettering and gilt 'lion rampant' motifs in compartments, top edge gilt, pp. 392. Inscribed by Robert Frost to his cousin Joseph Frost and his wife Rebecca in Maine. Rare inscribed with this noteworthy association.
First appearing as Robert Frost's Christmas card in 1957, "My Objection to Being Stepped On" was an 18-line poem later published in his final volume of poetry In the Clearing, published in 1962.
