A spectacular and early avant-garde children's book. Jespers' abstracted and representational color plates interplay geometric and decorative styles drawn from Cubism, Constructivism, Expressionism, De Stijl, and Art Deco. An outstanding example of post-World War I book illustration. OCLC locates five copies in the US.

New York: Doubleday, 2008. First edition. 206 pp. Tan boards over green backstrip, spine lettered in gilt, with the dust jacket. Slight rubbing to head and tial of spine, else fine. Pollock's first book, a collection of stories. A no-holds-barred writer who spent thirty years working in a paper mill before publishing his first book.

First edition. One of 500 numbered and signed copies, printed at the Spiral Press from the original blocks. Marbled paper over boards with printed cover label. Nine fables of Aesop, with full page woodcut illustrations on Goyu paper. Lower corners slightly rubbed, still a fine copy, with the original glassine, which has some chips and edgewear. In addition to Frasconi's signature on the colophon, he has inscribed this copy on the first blank leaf to Herman Cohen of the Chiswick Bookshop, dated December 1964.
