Description:
Birmingham: Halford Cycle Company Ltd., 1934. Original illustrated stapled card wrappers. Profusely illustrated throughout with pictures of all manner of cycling accessories. 128pp. A very good copy, the binding firm with marks to the upper cover and a small nick to the foot of the spine. The contents with a little toning are otherwise in very good order throughout. A wonderful insight into cycling in the 1930s, with illustrated advertisements for everything from horns, baskets, and satchels, to bells, peddles, and leggings.

London: Ward & Lock., [c.1860]. First edition thus. Publisher's original colour-printed pictorial yellow card wrappers. Octavo (25 x 16.5cm). 8pp. printed on one side only and mounted on linen. Each page illustrated with a hand-coloured wood engraving by the Dalziel Brothers. Publisher's adverts to the rear cover verso. A very good copy, the binding secure with a little separation to the covers at the foot of the spine, a small chip to the head of the rear cover, and minor wear to the extremities. The contents with scattered foxing are otherwise in very good order. A scarce mid-nineteenth-century edition of Sleeping Beauty, the pages linen-backed and the illustrations hand-coloured. The title forms No. 11 in Ward and Lock's 'The National Nursey Tales' series, which, according to the publisher's advertisement are "handsomely printed, with Coloured Illustrations, price 6d. each, or on Cloth (indestructible), 1s. Contemporary owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper ("A.L. Simnett[?]"), dated December 1942. The book contained within a contemporary home-made cloth dustwrapper extensively decorated in pen and ink to the front panel and spine with illustrations of Cairo street scenes and Egyptian antiquities, also incorporating manuscript titles. Blue and white pictorial endpapers. Illustrated with 17 black and white full-page plates by Stella Langdale and numerous in-text vignettes. Small contemporary bookseller's label to the rear pastedown (Brentano's, Paris). Two related newspaper clippings loosley laid in. A very good copy, the binding square and firm with a little dulling to the spine. The contents with offsetting to the facing pages where the newspaper cuttings have sat (not affecting illustrated pages), some light offsetting to the introduction page/title page verso, and some occasional light foxing are otherwise in very good order.
