A play by the great Chilean poet. Gilles de Rais was the notorious knight who fought alongside Joan of Arc but is better known as a serial killer; Bataille and Huysmans both wrote works about him. Frontispiece portrait of the author by Picasso, with two illustrations by Joseph Sima. Inscribed by Huidobro "a mes chers amis Lipchitz," possibly the sculptor Jacques Lipchitz and his wife Berthe, with whom Huidobro was known to associate during his time in Paris. A rare book, particularly inscribed.

One of 200 numbered copies printed by Roger Lescaret for Harry and Caresse Crosby. Raised in Wyoming, Gerard Vernon Wallop, 9th Earl of Portsmouth, Viscount Lymington, fell in with the Crosbys in Paris; they "bowled him right over" and he enjoyed various decadences with them, taking a flat nearby at 1 Rue Gît-le-Coeur. This copy is inscribed "for Constance, with Gerard's love, January 4th 1929" with an Autograph Letter Signed laid in from Gerard to Constance. A collection of poems published posthumously and anonymously by the author's husband, the Australian writer Arthur Maquarie. Mary Lintner was a sculptor and printmaker, and as alluded to in Maquarie's anonymous introduction, was the daughter of Joseph Lintner, a scientist and professor who was the first to hold the post of New York State Entomologist, and who had died in Rome in 1898. Two issues of this excellent Midwestern journal, of a total of fourteen published, edited by John Fowler, with George Kimball and Charles Plymell. Number 9 includes very early work by S. Clay Wilson (here "Steve"), along with Bukowski, levy, Frank O'Hara, Ted Berrigan, Ginsberg, Silliman, Eigner, and others, not to mention the Grist Playmate of the Month, Gerard Malanga.
