Description:
A copy that exhibits quite a bit of wear on the exterior, with shelf-soiled bottom edge, corners slightly bumped, and obvious wear from reading. That being said, the inside is clean and unmarked except for a previous owner's name written on the uppr right corner of the frontispiece. Binding is tight. Still quite readable and useful. Carl Sauer was a cultural geographer, sort of a historian and one who studies people, with emphases on different things than anthropologists. His works are of interest because they give a different perspective on the Spanish colonial experience, both from the Native American point of view and from the Spanish angle.

Description:
This is Number 5 of the series "Studies in Illinois Archaeology. It is the results of historical archaeology carried out at the site of the first location of Fort de Chartres, a French fort built in 1719-1720 along the Mississippi River. It was replaced by another fort in 1726, so the short occupation makes it a time capsule of early French occupation in the region. Clear photographs and drawings illustrate the findings. The report provides a good introduction to the archaeology of French sites in this part of the Mississippi Valley. Soft cover, in very good shape with minimal wear. Binding tight. Unmarked except for former owner's name stamped on bottom edge and written inside cover.
