Description:
Days of Victory is an account of the final years of the Second World War in Canada and the changes it brought to the country told via the accounts of the people who lived it. Based on more than three hundred firsthand accounts of the experiences of individual Canadians during World War II, it stands as a literary memorial to the role Canada and its citizens played in the war effort, both at home and abroad. Written by noted journalist, historian, and author Ted Barris in collaboration with his father Alex Barris, himself a noted author and actor, this was the first time they collaborated on a book which is described as "a gift of remembrance."

Description:
Yukon Bill was a pen name used by Canadian author Kate Simpson Hayes (1856-1945) who was a prolific author of plays and poetry as well as being one of the founding members of the Canadian Women's Press Club. She is considered the first woman to have worked as a journalist in Canada. Derby Day in the Yukon is a collection of Hayes' poetry published under the pseudonym Yukon Bill and is populated with entertaining characters and events no doubt inspired by Hayes' time living in the Canadian north and west. This copy is in very good condition, with some wear to the corners and the top and bottom of the spine. It has the dust jacket, which is in good condition with some discolouration and small tears. There is a tear fixed with tape on the inside of the top of the spine of the dust jacket, but the tape is not visible from the outside.

Description:
This beautiful, whimsical volume of sixteens pages is a collection of dog stories told by the children who owned them.
Published by the Saalfield Publishing Co. of Akron, Ohio, which was in business from 1899-1977 and was at the time the largest publisher of children's materials in the world.
Each story is accompanied by a stunning illustration of the dog who is the subject of the story. These paintings were done by Diana Thorne (b. 1895), who was one of the preeminent dog illustrators in America.
This volume is in very good condition. There is a small tear to the top of the front cover, and some scuffing to the back cover. Internally there are some small, likely age-related stains, but none of them are significant, and they do not hinder the text or illustrations.
A beautiful book, of interest for its role both in the history of American's children's literature, as well as for its preservation of the work of a significant artistic figure.

Description:
Part of the Nelson's Library of classic works, The Dolly Dialogues was one of Anthony Hope's most successful works, though of a decidedly different tone than the work for which he is likely best known, The Prisoner of Zenda. Set amongst the trappings of London high society in the nineteenth century, this comedic work tells of the romantic misadventures of Dolly Foster and Sam Carter. This volume is in Very Good condition, with a slight lean. There is slight wear and bumping to the corners, and some staining to the red cloth along the bottom edge of the front cover. The gilt title and designs on the spine are bright. It does not have the dust jacket.

Description:
Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, was one of the most recognisable figures of English history. Especially after he became prime minister he was a popular subject for caricature artists of the day, given his lack of regard for the public's opinion of him as well as his unique appearance. This book collects together some of the best examples of nineteenth century caricatures of the Duke of Wellington.
These images were collected from The Department of Prints and Drawings of the Victoria and Albert Museum and compiled in this volume by John Physick who, in addition to working his entire career at the Victoria and Albert Museum, was a notable scholar, writing numerous volumes, including one on the museum itself.
Such caricatures are of unique historical significance, as they typically reflect sentiments that do not necessarily always find their way into the historical record, that of the average person.
Each image is accompanied by an explanation of the symbolism employed in the caricature… Read More
