Czechoslovakia: A. Zwemmer, 1931. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/Good+. Helena Bochoráková-Dittrichová . This book is from the private collection of David Berona, author of Wordless Books: The Original Graphic Novels. It was gifted by David's widow to David's close friend, Kurt Webb of Silent Story Books. This is the English edition of Z mého detství. Bochorakova is considered to be the first female artist to produce a wordless novel. The work consists of a story about the day-to-day activities of a sheltered girl in a middle-class family living in Moravia, a historical region of the Czech Republic. It is told entirely through woodcuts. First published in Paris, the book was later published in this, the first English edition by the British bookshop and gallery A. Zwemmer, formerly of Charing Cross Road, London. NOTE: the reversed "Z" on the cover but correct on the title page. Book in Good condition; back cover detached/front cover…

Description:
Kansas City: Woodcut Society, 1939. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Portfolio Folder. Near Fine. Claire Leighton . Signed by Illustrator(s). Signed, numbered, and titled in pencil; a wood engraving on what appears to be Japanese mulberry paper. Folder: 12 3/4 x 16 inches; Accompanying text is by the artist. Image is 6 x 7 5/8 inches. Print is a fine impression in very good condition, has slightest bit of mat toning and remnants of original glue where it had been attached to the folder. Slight split in folder has been reinforced with Japanese archival tape. This print is in numerous major US museums as well as a number of international collections. Caroline Mesrobian Hickman, Mint Museum of Art (from an exhibition catalogue on Leighton's graphic work) wrote " Winnowers, Majorca, in which Spanish workers harvest beans with three-pronged forks, shows Leighton at the height of her artistry as a designer and engraver. Design, balance and rhythm combine with numerous tonal contrasts and textures,…

1940. Portfolio Box. Near Fine. The Colophon's 20 volumes in the 1930s each had an original print. With the depression the publishers tried to economize with different sizes and omitting prints - this had lukewarm success. In 1939/40 they reverted to the original size and included a print. This was done for only 4 volumes. This slipcase was designed to hold the four volumes. It appears to be covered in some sort of sturdy fabric. Note: the heavy ribbon designed to facilitate the removal of the volumes. approx 11 1/4 x 9 x 2 1/2 inches. Description:
Self? date unknown. 1st Edition . Portfolio Box. Very Good. Paul Honore. Signed by Illustrator(s). A very unusual item. Paul Honore (1885-1956) was an important American printmaker, muralist and illustrator who lived and worked in Detroit for most of his career. To illustrate how a four coloured print is made, Honore printed each of the 4 blocks separately and then printed the colours on top of each other to achieve the final print. The individual sheets and a short treatise on engraving are held in a folder with the finished print on top. A cutout on the front cover with a clear plastic sheet allows one to view the finished print. Near fine mailing box with some smudges. The folio box is near fine with very minor rubbing on spine. The box appears to be covered in a coated, cloth embossed material that is coloured to appear as leather. The prints have spotting as can be seen in the photos. Size (9 x 12") will require an adjustment on shipping price.
