Description:
10" x 13" photo album with over 150 snapshots of college women enjoying themselves. Dates in the album range from 1929 to 1941, with about two thirds of the album from the early 30s, with the last part showing post college family life. Notable images include a mock wedding party with women dressed as men, with other identified pics including Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen, Jones Beach, the Fenway, Buttermilk Falls, Cambridge, Cape Code, etc. The college is not identified by name, but I figured out by some addresses mentioned, that this is from Simmons College (now a University) a private women focused undergraduate university and private co-educational graduate school in Boston. Two photos are missing, otherwise it is in good condition.

The first photo shown in the album is a 5" x 8" photo of the USS Dutchess. The next photo is the same size and is identified as "S-Division, Ship's Company," with several black men. There is a six-page, double sided, hand-written log, which details stops in Panama, Philippines, Hawaii, Marshal Islands, Saipan, Okinawa, California and Seattle. "My Log and Diary" starts on February 26, 1945 and goes till around late June 1945. Some interesting entries include: En route from Panama to Pearl Harbor: Arrive at Pearl Harbor at 07:30. General quarters drill. Disembark the 1500 Seabees and Marine passengers. While on liberty today in Honolulu, I ran into my brother in-law, Joseph P. Coleman. Had… Read More

Description:
14.75 x 9.5" brown suede photo album with painted illustrations of sled dogs and a totem pole on the cover, along with a poem about Alaska. The album on the cover reads: Where The North Begins Oh give me the tang of the bracing air, The woods, the birds and the tall trees there; The babbling brooks with their speckled trout, Lakes teeming with fish, Indians trapping about; The bounding deer and the scenery grand, Mirrored in waters o'er golden sand, All these are singing natures hymns, Up where the North begins. The album appears to have been put together by Inez Morningstar between 1951 and 1954 while living on an Air Force Base in Alaska. According to an online search, Morningstar was employed in the Civil Service in Anchorage. At the front of the album there are handwritten poems about Alaska and a list of clubs visited and places seen; these are written in a white pen that rubbed off on some other pages. There are over 120 photos with around 82 black and white photos and 40 Kodacolor photos of… Read More

Sixteen mostly 5.25" x 7" photos with a couple smaller images, show the Anzani airplane engines from Around 1910. Some of the photos have handwritten notations on the versos, and are housed in an envelope for "Anzani, Moteurs d'Aviation." Alessandro Anzani (1877-1956) was born in Italy, where he taught himself how to make engines for motorcycles, cars, boats and eventually airplanes. He moved to Paris around 1900 and was involved with racing motorcycles. He worked for Cornet, a manufacturer of motorcycles, who let him use their workshop to develop an engine. With money he won in motorcycle racing, he set up a workshop near Paris in Courbevoie, where he worked on developing engines. One of those engines was a lightweight three-cylinder engine that Louis Bleriot would use in a plane that crossed the English Channel in 1909. Eventually he would license his engines to be used by different manufacturers. He retired just shy of his 50th birthday in 1927 and retired to Normandy. He never qualified for a… Read More

Two loose leaf notebooks measuring 10" x 11.5," with over 200 drawings and notes that appear to have belonged to a man named Arko, who was a Polaroid employee in the 1970s. There are a handful of photos as well, including one where two people give the finger to the snapshooter. Most of the drawings and notes, which are on scrap pieces of paper, reference fellow Polaroid employees and the Polaroid company as well. Some things would be considered politically incorrect today, and it is evident, that morale was low at the company.
