Binding is firm & spine is free of any reading creases. Very minor shelf wear and sunning to wrapper edges.

Marcus Valerius Martialis was a Roman poet best known for these Epigrams, in which he satirizes city life and the scandalous activities of his acquaintances. Fully bound in vellum with ink title to spine and red sprayed page edges. Internally clean and free of markings. Small ripping/loss to bottom corner of last 15 leaves, affecting index text only on last 3 leaves. Also some loss & puncture holes to top left corner of rear board. Heavy rubbing and soiling to vellum & boards have a slight concave bow. Binding and hinges remain tight and secure.

Orient Paperbacks, no date given. Paperback. Very good/N/A. Condensed verse translation by Romesh C. Dutt of the Indian epic. Indian printing, assumed in the mid-late 20th century. Previous owner's name written and two bookstore stamps on inside of front cover. Interior pages are clean and unmarked. Binding is solid, though there are a few places early in the book where binding is visible in gutter. Slight spine lean with mild wear at the top and base. Very rare edition.

W.S. Haven, 1856. Hardcover. Good/None. No dust jacket. Binding is firm and square. No markings. Both front and back boards are slightly bowed inward. Stain on bottom spine end and minor bumping to corners. Light foxing to pages throughout.

This edition first published by Harper & Brothers in 1914. Illustrated. Jacket is now protected in archival sleeve but previously suffered shelf wear, chipping, creases and a few large areas where cover is missing entirely. Rubbing and tanning to much of jacket with liquid stain to bottom/fore edge of back cover. Boards are straight and clean with mildly bumped corners and spine ends. Gilt decoration on front board and spine beginning to darken somewhat. A few instances of mildly split binding, though hinges remain secure and binding is fairly strong on the whole. All pages are clean and unmarked though faintly tanned and with a few sparse areas of spotty discoloration.

Charles Scribner's Sons, 1899. Hardcover. Very good/None. Pages are unmarked except for two separate previous owners' names on front endpapers. Nice shiny gilt top edge to pages. Binding is cracked and one of the pictures has come loose. Spine has a slight lean. Board colors, including gilt, are slightly faded and rubbed. Some staining on front board and spine. Corners of boards have less damage than typical for a book of this age. Spine ends are fraying slightly.

All pages are bright, clean and unmarked aside from previous owner's name on front endpaper. Faint soiling to page edges. Binding and hinges secure, although spine has a slight lean.

Corner bumps and wear around the edges of covers. Some sparse writing in pencil throughout books. Mild liquid staining to lower gutter area of some pages in Part 2, and to lower fore corner of Part Six.
